The Chamber celebrated the opening of the Janet Arline Barker Fine Art Studio. The celebration was inaugurated at the A Grape in the Fog with her photo exhibition titled, "Flowers in the Fog."

Janet's life work has been sharing the wonders and beauties in nature with others. Initially she taught science and outdoor educational programs in Colorado, Montana, California, and Washington, D.C. Using her creative skills in teaching, she combined art with science to enhance both observation and learning skills in the students. Janet then worked 18 years in the creative arts industry as a graphic designer, illustrator, photographer, and artist. Clearly inspired by nature, she captures both the intensity and subtleties of her surroundings. Her published art and nature stories are illustrated with original paintings, photos, and musical videos.

Her desire to bring art to people using representations of places that hold inspiration or memories is being fulfilled with publications on, plein air painting events, art shows in public places, and travelling art shows in area businesses. Her art products are for sale at locations depicted in the landscapes and seascapes.

Her note cards and calendars bring beauty into the lives of anyone receiving them. Commemorative paintings celebrating special life events or memorable locations are available by commission.

Artist Statement
Plein air painting is a peaceful and expressive journey. It gives me energy and purpose. It is a dance I do with brush in hand, propelled by color, infused with fresh air and the sounds of nature. My desire is that others will experience more than a painting when they gaze upon the colored canvas.

Janet's studio is housed at the Sanchez Art Center at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd.
